what a week that was!
''Exploding a moment'' a new phrase i learned during class this past week and my lecturer really exploded the moment in getting us to understand that phrase. watching movies and reading books to me didn't do any justice to understanding and putting into context that phrase. It was the explanation by our lecturer breaking down each step, using videos, stories, having grand discussions with questions and explanation that aid in my understanding of that phrase is what stood out to me.
I am extremely grateful for being present in class this past week as i would have missed lots of important information such as sensory details, the feelings and emotions of the characters that aids in exploding the moment as we have seen in the video of the flight attendant shown in class. watching that video cemented what our lecturer have been saying and got me to look at my first draft with a very critical eye as it was lacking that exploding moment that would capture and keep any reader engaged.
with all the information received I am excited to begin the journey of narrative writing with my students, ensuring that proper planning is done and taking it very slow, starting with literature that is at their level and movie clips to reinforce the exploding a moment phrase. Another thought that just cross my mind is role play, i wonder if role play can be used to explode a moment?
I definitely await my fellow bloggers response to that. All different scenarios are going through my mind right now.
I am so excited!!!
until next time
Arrivederci !
I definitely agree with you that the variety of ways we interacted with the concept “exploding the moment” really did help to cement it in my head as well.
ReplyDeleteIn relation to your question, I believe the answer is yes “exploding the moment” can be applied to a role play scenario. As a matter of fact I think it will greatly enhance the immersion of the participants and the audience. Can you imagine a student playing “little red riding hood” pretending to skip through an imaginary forest, then stops to describe what she experiences in the forest, using the five senses? Maybe the students playing little red riding hood may even describes how she feels at that moment as she jubilantly makes her way to her grandmother’s house. I believe it will help to set the scene, the audience will be able to connect to the sounds, smells, and scenery of the forest, they will even be able to better understand her emotions at the time for even more emersion.
I concur with both of you, the different ways that were used to explain the strategy really cemented my understanding. Exploring the moment does arouse interest and I believe it can be used in role play.
